notes on November...

I am taking part in a reading challenge (original post HERE).
I will only list the most recent below, the full list is in the original post as linked above.

Here is my larger than life update for November...

18. An Echo in the Bone - Diana Gabaldon

Ahhhh! I just finished this one in time to include it for November. It was a biggie, but so, so worth it's 814 pages. For those of you who have never read any of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, you really should give it a go. It's brilliant!

As the back of the series of books reads... "Two hundred years separated Highlander Jamie Fraser from wartime nurse Claire Randall. They still found a way to be together." Awwwww!

This book was mostly the further adventures of the two main characters, Jamie and Claire. This time sees them stuck in the middle of the American revolutionary war with the British redcoats. There is a lot more interaction with Jamie's son William (who doesn't know he's Jamie's son) this time around, with William fighting on the side of the redcoats. There are two more ocean voyages, one of which goes terribly wrong and the other which takes Jamie, Claire and Young Ian back across to Scotland and their family home of Lallybroch. And lastly for a great twist, a second story running through the novel involving the 20th century lives of Jamie and Claire's daughter Brianna and her husband Roger.

I really, really loved it. The only bad part of the book for me, was that it had to end and leave such enormous cliffhangers to keep me wanting more! Five Highland Flings out of five!!!

my creative space, well sort of...

This week I've worked on this little stitchery that our lovely activities coordinators at SS&Q gave out to everyone at our Melbourne Cup night sit and sew. It has a very sweet saying on it that I really identified with. I have a dear friend who I think will also identify with it, so I'd like to try to incorporate it into a bag design for a Chrissie pressie for her. It says... "A woman is like a teabag. You never know how strong she is until you put her in hot water." I know so many strong, competent women so this picture is for all of you!

I've also been playing about with some pincushions, the design of which I found here. Mine are a little plainer than the ones in the tutorial, but I'm pretty happy with the result anyway. They came together very quickly as promised by Kirsty and I think the little one in particular is very cute. I've had so much fun with them, I think I'm going to do one in felt next.

Today wasn't quite so creative, but lots of fun. I went along with Noah's class on an excursion to the Melbourne Aquarium. It's a fantastic place to visit if you've never been along before. How adorable are these little guys?

It's Tuesday and I can't wait...

It's Tuesday and I can't wait... to get my braces off next Monday! Yahoo!!!!!

It's been just about two and half years since I had them put on. Here is a before shot:

It's not that great, but the only one I could find just prior to getting my braces on, where I'm smiling with my teeth! I'm planning on posting an after shot next week and am really, really excited. I'm sure anyone who has worn braces, either as a teenager or an adult can understand just how amazing it is that the end is finally in sight.

Thanks for Louise from Buttons By Lou Lou for starting and hosting It's Tuesday and I can't wait.... Visit Louise to see who else is playing...

my creative space

I'm working on a patch for a goodwill quilt we're doing at SS&Q for one of our lovely members. It had to be made up on a 'white on white' fabric and use blues and aqua fabrics and/or threads. The theme was hearts. I decided to get clever and draw my own design... so I hope it turns out ok!! As I'm pretty new to embroidery, my Mum is slowly teaching me new stitches. Here you can see two newies that I've learned today - the chain stitch and the whipped chain stitch. Feeling pretty pleased with myself!
